I hope that some of the well-worn questions about the nature, purpose, and function of the biblical canon may be cast in a fresh light if we step back from familiar debates about canon in antiquity and choose a con temporary focus instead. Thus, I propose to consider the recent (2013) publication of A New New Testament: A Bible for the 21stCentury Combining Traditional and Newly Discovered Texts, edited with a commentary by Hal Taussig.¹
