What is the overnight chat service?

The chat service allows Library users and visitors to contact us from anywhere and receive real time answers to questions and enquiries. You will see a box that you can type into and see replies. This is the Questionpoint Qwidget. Librarians in other areas of the world will answer you questions based on the information that they have access to about Durham University library.

How do I use chat?

Just click in the text entry box (the bottom white box) and start typing your question. When you have finished typing your question press ENTER. A librarian will answer your enquiry as soon as possible during the hours Questionpoint is online, currently overnight 20:00 - 8:00 UK time.

Who will see my message?

The only person who will see what you type is the librarian dealing with the chat service staff and answering your enquiry. This is currently an overnight service operated by librarians in the USA. What do I do when Questionpoint is offline?

You can send us a message via our online enquiries form at any time, which will be responded to during working hours Monday to Friday. Alternatively you can find other ways to get in touch on our contact us page.

Is there anything I can't ask?
