Welcome to
Durham
Castle
Sitting at the heart of Durham's World Heritage Site and occupied continuously since the 11th century, the Castle is now home to the students of University College, part of Durham University.
In line with Government advice, and to ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, students and visitors, our museums and galleries remain closed. All Castle Tours are now cancelled. Stay in touch on Facebook.

Lovely
Durham Castle is so beautiful. It really makes the skyline when you come over on the train.

Unexpected highlight - fab value for a fiver
Our guide Charles made the tour come alive with both encyclopaedic knowledge and a clear love of his subject but also a cracking sense of humour.

Stunning
Courtyard, chapels, apartments, location, student areas, it’s all fab. Worth the slog up the cobbled Hill, and view it from the river while hiring a rowing boat.

Fabulous tour!
You can only visit this castle as part of a tour and what a tour we had. Guided by Imogen, it was interesting and humourous.
