Summer in the City
SUMMER IN THE CITY FESTIVAL (SitC) celebrates Durham’s art, music and theatre. Now in its second year, the festival is a collaboration between Durham County Council and Durham University. We aim to establish one curated and collaborative offer for the arts and cultural programming across the city in June each year. However, as we step into the digital world we will be updating our virtual festival throughout this summer.
SitC festival brings together three programmes of work: visual art, music and theatre. Each strand has previously produced an established programme of events throughout June. Each Summer Durham County Council’s Gala Theatre and Durham University Student Theatre and Music have developed productions, including student productions. . The art programme (previously known as Art Durham) brings together exhibitions, talks, commissions, screenings and workshops. In June 2019 all three programmes united under SitC and collectively engaged with over 19,000 visitors and participants.
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have adapted our plans and gone digital to bring you SitC ONLINE 2020 all summer.
