Lunar New Year Celebration: Friday 12 until 26 February 2021
In collaboration with Durham University students and the local community, we will mark Lunar New Year with a celebration including storytelling, performances, crafts and much more.
Lunar New Year is celebrated across Asia, including in China, Vietnam, Korea and Laos. During the two-week festival, people travel to see their family and friends, give gifts, and eat a New Year meal. 2021 is the Year of the Ox, so join in and find out about the traditions of this ancient festival.
Holi: March 2021
Welcome the spring season to Durham with Holi Festival. Holi is the Indian Spring Festival also known as the Festival of Colours, because the main way to celebrate is to throw brightly coloured powders over friends and family!
This year Holi Festival will be online, so join in the fun with craft activities, story telling and the community voices sharing Holi memories and experiences.
Buddha’s Birthday: May 2021
Buddha’s Birthday, also known as Vesak, celebrates the birth of the historical Buddha, Gautama Siddhartha. Join us for this special celebration with traditional Buddha Bathing, the story of the Birth of Buddha, crafts, performances, talks and much more.
