Dr Krastu Banev, MA, MPhil, PhD (Cantab)
My research interests include classical rhetorical theory and Christian preaching; early Christian asceticism and later Orthodox spirituality; Byzantine hymnography; the cultural and religious links between Byzantium and the Slav world. I've also been investigating the theological responses to the Balkan Wars and WW1 in the works of the Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov.

During this period I had several meetings with academics, members of NGOs and the heads of the PR offices of the Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence – all with the view to jointly organise the Third International Consultation of Orthodox Military Chaplains to take place in Bulgaria in November 2019 (£1000)
