Durham University Sailing Club competes in a range of sailing activities, entering teams in BUCS events for team racing, fleet racing and yachting events when restrictions allow. In their last team racing event, the DUSC first team won the Northern Division, so we’re excited to see how this competitive streak develops throughout the next sailing season.
The club owns a flight of fireflies at the closest training ground, Derwent Reservoir, which is predominantly where sailing takes place. Team racing training takes place after trials on both a Saturday and Sunday, yacht racing events are held in external venues and fleet racing enables you to compete in your own boat, at the location of the BUCs event.
Despite our main focus residing in competing, we also offer a range of activities to all DU students, such as our Summer Sailing week. This takes place at the end of exams where anyone and everyone is welcome to come along to Derwent to get a chance to have a social sail and hopefully a barbeque, although this is weather permitting!
