Gymnastics / Trampolining
DUGTC is an inclusive and friendly club welcoming all abilities from those who have never tried gymnastics or trampolining before to elite athletes who want to continue competing at university. If you want to have some fun bouncing on a trampoline with your friends and get some good exercise in by trying new skills this is the club for you! Trampolining train 3 times a week at the new Maiden Castle facilities and gymnastics train twice a week at external facilities (currently Deerness gymnastics academy). We also run S&C sessions weekly and socials frequently throughout term.

Discipline/Position: Gymnastic Co-Captain
Degree: Biological Sciences Bsc
College: St Aidan’s
Durham Results: Flo is a vital part of DUGTC as a coach in her second year and now co-captain she has thrown herself into all areas of the club. She has great enthusiasm for gymnastics and is always encouraging new and old members during training.
Prior to Durham: Flo competed to a high standard in acrobatic gymnastics. She competed internationally from 2016-2018 securing 3rd place in Balance at the 12-18 level. She also secured numerous regional titles and still coaches acrobatic gymnastics at her local club.
Trivia: Flo can walk an impressive 24m on her hands!
Degree: Geography Ba
Durham Results: Emma has been an active and passionate member of DUGTC since her first year. She later took on the role of gymnastics coach and now co-president. She has represented Durham competing in trampolining and elite tumbling.
Prior to Durham: Emma competed to an international standard in acrobatic gymnastics securing two medals at international cups and third place at the British finals as well as numerous regional titles. She later took up team gym and coaching.
Trivia: Emma’s party trick is balancing her entire bodyweight on one arm!
Discipline/Position: previous Gymnastics Co-Captain
Degree: Mathematics MMath
Durham Results: Seamus is an enthusiastic member of the club never afraid to push himself to try new moves making him a great role model for new and old gymnasts. He has progressed significantly from having not done gymnastics before to learning forward and backward somersaults! He was last years co-captain and did an excellent job with that role.
Prior to Durham: Seamus had not done any gymnastics prior to coming to Durham making his achievements even more impressive!
Trivia: Seamus was the first gymnast to learn a backflip in under an hour in our DUGTC challenge.
Discipline/ Position: Trampolining and Current Treasurer.
Durham Results: Tom placed 2nd in both DMT and Trampoline at BUCS in 2019 and has been highly successful in NEUT competitions since 2018. Tom is a brilliant all-round trampolinist who has also placed 1st in synchro and has contributed significantly to the team’s annual victories.
Prior to Durham: Tom has done both gymnastics and trampolining from a young age and competed nationally before coming to Durham.
Trivia: Tom couldn’t stay away from the club for too long and returned to Durham from his year out for the Hill vs Bailey competition (commitment right…)
Discipline/ Position: Trampolining and Current Co-Captain
College: Hild Bede
Durham Results: Being a fresher in 2019-2020 Alex was unable to compete with us but has become a vital part of this team (and almost secret weapon) who offers skill, coaching and medal potential!
Prior to Durham: Alex spent 15 years before coming to Durham as a gymnast and trampolinist with significant success in NDP finals, he is also a qualified Gymnastics coach.
Trivia: Alex’s home club was the home of GB’s first trampolining Olympian, Jamie Moore.
Discipline/ Position: Trampolining and current Social Secretary
Durham Results: Also a fresher in 2019-2020 Theo attended his first trampoline competition (and sadly the last one of 2020) and was a vital member of the team. Theo also helped lead the Hill to victory in our annual Hill vs Bailey competition and offers huge potential for 2021!
Prior to Durham: New to trampolining, Theo has developed a love for the sport and has become a huge personality on this team, supporting every member of the community.
Trivia: Theo learnt how to do a back somersault in an hour in his first ever session!
Notable Accolades: Oliver competed with us for 3 years, medalling each competition in both Individual Trampoline and DMT and supporting the team’s growth to DMT champions in 2019. Oliver also competed at the highest level in BUCS 2019 and took home a bronze medal in both individual and DMT. Prior to coming to Durham Oliver competed nationally and during his time at Durham placed 3rd in the British DMT Championships and represented Great Britain at the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo.
Trivia: Oliver has broken 30 trampoline springs and no bones.
Degree: Geology MSc
Notable Accolades: Laura was an active and supportive member of the gymnastics club. She showcased her impressive tumbling at ISTO (Irish Student Trampoline Open). She competed in artistic gymnastics and tumbling prior to her time at Durham achieving several southern regional titles in tumbling.
Trivia: Laura can do more than 4 somersaults in a row! Enough to make anyone dizzy.
