Study Break Card

Many students are spending long hours in the Library. This means that study space is at a premium. To encourage students to make good use of study space as well as to take regular breaks, the Bill Bryson Library and the Queen’s Campus Library are introducing the use of Study break cards starting from February 2018.

If you are going to be away for more than a few minutes, the study break card allows you to leave your desk for up to 45 minutes. Write your leaving time in one of the blank spaces and place it on your desk.

If your seat remains unoccupied for longer than 45 minutes and another student needs the space, your belongings may be removed by a Library staff member. You shall collect your removed items at the Help and Information desk.

Study break cards are available for collection at the Help and Information desk in the designated box. You can use your Study break card up to six times: keep it for further use or, if you no longer need it, please leave unused cards in the same collection box.

A few things to remember…

  • Our study break scheme runs throughout the year and is not restricted to busy periods nor to the Library 24/7 period.
  • If you know that you are going to be away for longer than 45 minutes (e.g. if you are going to class), please be considerate of other Library users and take your things with you. Study space is at a premium: make good use of it!
  • Take your valuables with you. The Library accepts no responsibility for items left unattended.
