Launch of new Space Bookings system

(25 September 2020)

We are pleased to announce that, as part of the roll-out of a new University space booking system, bookings to visit the Library during 2020-2021 will be managed online.

The new booking system, called Space Bookings, allows you to book for the following services:

  • Browse and Borrow at Bill Bryson Library

  • Stay and Study at Bill Bryson Library

  • Disability Support Room at Bill Bryson Library

  • Stay and Study at Teaching and Learning Centre - individual and household bookings

All students and academic staff are required to book a timeslot.

This system will be rolled out to other parts of the University in the coming months.

Additional study spaces

In addition to the Library, study spaces can be booked at the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), just across the road from the Bill Bryson Library as of 5 October. Here, you can book individual study spaces or household study spaces. Household spaces are a more social way to study. Groups of two to six people can be accommodated, in a variety of seating styles. Students will be allocated to a college household group. Information on ‘households’ can be found on the University website.

Extending our opening hours

We will be expanding our Library opening hours from 5 October 2020, allowing us to offer more bookable timeslots for our services, with weekend opening commencing 10 October. This is part of our phased re-opening, and you will see further increases in our opening hours during this term.

Booking timeslots are available during the following times (as of Monday 5 October):

Browse and Borrow
Monday-Friday - between 8.15am-5.15am (22 hour opening)
Saturday-Sunday - between 10.15am-3.15pm

Stay and Study (Bill Bryson Library)
Monday-Friday - between 8am-5.45am (22 hour opening)
Saturday-Sunday - between 9am-3.45pm

Stay and Study (Teaching and Learning Centre for individual and household study groups)
Monday-Friday - between 8am-9pm
Saturday-Sunday - between 9am-9pm

Bookings will open on a rolling week basis, and you can book up to four timeslots for Browse and Borrow and two timeslots (one per day) for each Stay and Study service per week, at each venue.

To manage numbers and physical distancing in our buildings, we will only be allowing entry to users who have pre-booked – please don’t visit the Library or TLC unless you have booked a timeslot. Once we have reached capacity for the day, we will be unable to allow any further bookings.

For full details of the services and what to expect when visiting the Library, please visit our Services Guide.
