Eating space pilot 27 February – 2 June 2017

The pilot for a designated eating space in the Bill Bryson Library and Queen's campus library ends 2 June. Cold food and lidded drinks can continue to be consumed in designated areas unitl the end of term and until a full evaluation of the pilot is completed. Recommendations will follow.

Students’ Union and the University Library are very pleased to announce that there will be a trial eating space in the Bill Bryson and the Queen’s Campus Libraries running from Monday 27 February – Friday 2 June.

This trial has been prompted by feedback from students on the inadequacy of eating space close to the libraries, and will run over the busiest study period in terms two and three. During the pilot, drinks with lids and cold food will be permitted on Level 2 in the soft seating area near the Help and Information Point in the Bill Bryson Library and in Room D205 in the Queen’s Campus Library.

At the end of the pilot feedback from students, other library users, library staff and housekeeping staff will be reviewed with the Student Union. If successful, it would mean permanent eating space in the library. However the long term sustainability of having this space will depend on students using and respecting the space and the other parts of the libraries during the trial period.

Feedback from students has been that they need more eating space, and I’m really happy that we’ve been able to work with the library to trial a solution. I would encourage all students working regularly working in the Library to make use of the space, to treat it well, and to provide feedback on the space if you have questions or concerns.”

Our aim is to provide pleasant library environments that balance the wide range of study needs and this pilot is one way of exploring a new provision in one area.”
