Alternative Drawing School with Paul Raymond (Week 1)

Week 1: Saturday 25th January 2020 10.30- 12:00

Over four weeks artist, Paul Raymond will lead an alternative drawing school at Palace Green Library. Each weeks focus will change, exploring the themes of our current exhibition, Norman Cornish: The Sketchbooks.

Paul Raymond is an artist and art educator from the northeast. His practice includes drawing, collage, digital and performance work. He is passionate about art being accessible, engaging and enjoyable for everybody.

No experience necessary, booking is required using the Eventbrite links below.

Week 1: Saturday 25th January 2020 10.30- 12:00
The first session will be an introduction to experimental drawing and mark-making using Cornish’s sketchbooks as inspiration. No traditional drawing skills or experience will be necessary.

Week 2: Saturday 1st February 2020 10.30- 12:00
The second session will focus on print-making. Participants will use a variety of printmaking techniques to explore ideas about the faded memories of our recent past.

Week 3: Saturday 8th February 2020 10.30- 12:00
The third session will take inspiration from the small sketchbooks Norman Cornish carried with him to capture his observations of everyday life. Participants will make quick drawings in public spaces to capture their own observations.

Week 4: Saturday 15th February 2020 10.30- 12:00
The final session will involve large scale drawing and collaboration. Participants will create immersive drawing installations based on Cornish’s work.
