Dunbar Tales

This event is a storytelling and musical evening exploring an array of legends, folktales and ghost stories from East Lothian inspired by the Bodies of Evidence exhibition showcasing the 2013 discovery of Scottish soldiers buried in Durham.

Heather Yule is a traditional storyteller based about five miles from the site of the 1650 battle of Dunbar where these soldiers were captured and then marched south. She will be sharing the tales of land and sea that these young men would have grown up listening to by the hearth on a winter’s evening, heard whilst at work in the fields, or from the fishermen at the harbour.

Heather grew up surrounded by traditional storytelling and music and began her love of telling stories at family ceilidhs as a small child. Then, as a teenager, she began learning the clarsach (Scottish traditional harp) and later developed her own unique way of combining traditional storytelling with the music of the harp. Heather is a long established accredited member of the Scottish Storytelling Directory and has travelled all over Scotland and abroad, including Iceland, Norway, Poland and North America, performing, teaching and leading workshops.

A selection of drinks and deserts will be available to purchase from the cafe.

Tickets are priced at £4.50 for this event, and can be purchased via Eventbrite.
