  • 31st May 2016 - DGSI Director Professor Shaun Gregory addressed the UK Army's First Division Command on the topic of "Defence Engagement" at Imphal Barracks in York.
  • 4th May 2016 - Professor the Honorable Gareth Evans, formerly of the Australian Government, International Crisis Group, and UN, was in Durham to give the King Hussein Memorial Lecture on "Negotiating Across Cultures on Peace and Security Issues". Professor Evans took time out of a busy schedule to have lunch with DGSI students and to discuss their work and the work of DGSI.
  • 30th November 2015 - the second of the DGSI/NATO Annual Conferences looking at Afghanistan in Regional Context and US/NATO drawdown. This event was held in the South of England, attracted participants from RUSI, IISS, and NATO, and an audience comprised of 19 different organisations. The papers from the conference can be found on the DGSI website.
  • 16th July 2015 - DGSI hosted a Cabinet Office team for a one-day workshop on the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR). This event focussed on three issues: the changing nature of the global system and the UK's position within it; opportunities for upstream intervention; the stability of the Middle East.
  • 11th June 2015 - DGSI hosted Air Commodore Adil Sultan of Pakistan's Strategic Plans Division (SPD), its nuclear weapons agency, for a talk on Pakistan's nuclear weapons policy and strategy.
  • 28th May 2015 - DGSI hosted a Cabinet Office, National Security Advisor, team for a two-day workshop on the Middle East and Islamic State, in University College. This event was attended by participant students from DGSI.
