What's On

Please note: The Gallery is currently closed for exhibition changeover and refurbishment

The Gallery is a new free public platform for Durham University’s permanent collection of modern art, presenting a changing programme of exhibitions and art projects across the year. Presenting an insight into the University’s collection of modern art, exhibitions present work by some of the most significant artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and explore artist printing techniques from early woodcuts to more contemporary screen and digital methods.

Free exhibition Showcasing women artists from Durham University's art collection.

The collection includes work by some of the most significant artists of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. This exhibition focuses on female artists represented in the collection and questions the historic imbalance in the representation of women’s work perpetuated by many exhibitions and collections in the past.

Feel free to take a seat at the table and use our mini-library or our TALK, PLAY, & LOOK activity bags to learn more about the artworks on display. You are also welcome to attach details of your own local art events to the community art notice board.

Please note that this gallery is occasionally closed so that it can be used for university teaching. Please feel free to telephone before your visit if you want to ensure that the exhibition will be open.
