Scaling the Heights

Bringing mountaineering literature to life. 

An exhibition by artists Stephen, Margaret and Kate Livingstone working with Dr Abbie Garrington of Durham University to recreate heroic Himalayan mountain climbs in miniature. Based on accounts of pioneering expeditions, the artists are restaging famous summit climbs using a pair of vintage Action Men figures who scale the heights of prestigious mountaineering libraries. The resulting handmade books are exhibited alongside images and objects from the collections of the Mountain Heritage Trust.
