Friends of the Botanic Garden

Enjoyed your visit to Durham University Botanic Garden? Interested in supporting future scientific research? Wish to preserve the beauty of the gardens for generations to come? Then find out how you can support us, either financially or by lending your time as a Friend of the Garden.

The "Friends of the Garden" organisation was established in 1982 to support the work, and to encourage the wider appreciation, of Durham University Botanic Garden. This is a group of like-minded individuals whose interests may be as varied as botany, artwork or wildlife, but all of whom share a passion for the Botanic Garden.

Friends arrange a series of activities throughout the year, including lectures, social functions and visits to other notable gardens. Details of these are included in their programme. In order to raise money for the Garden, Friends have a plant and produce sale in the Spring.

There is also an exclusive guided tour of the Garden arranged for Friends at 10am on the last Wednesday of each month (excepting November, December, January and February). After the tour coffee and biscuits are served, for which the Friends are asked to donate £1.00 to Garden funds.

The patron of Friends of the Garden is the Chancellor of Durham University.

Email our Membership Secretary for more information or visit the Friends of the Garden website to see how much annual membership costs.

All Memberships include unlimited, free admission to the Botanic Garden throughout the year.

You can pick up an application form from the Friends' noticeboard in the Botanic Garden Visitor Centre.
