Durham Archaeology Explorers (DAX)
Durham Archaeology Explorers (DAX) is an archaeology club for children aged 7 - 11 years.
DAX meets on the first Saturday of each month at the Oriental Museum. We also go on regular field trips to local archaeological and heritage sites. Each session focuses on a different aspect of archaeology. The programme is varied and makes use of the collections and exhibitions at the Oriental Museum and Museum of Archaeology. Children are able to get hands on with museum objects, try experiments, develop archaeological skills and have fun.
Booking for to each session is essential. If you are interested in joining DAX or to make a booking, please email Charlotte Spink on email@example.com.
Each session is £3 per child, payable on arrival at the Oriental Museum reception.
New members are welcome at any time!
Creative Age is a free weekly art group for people living with dementia or other long-term health challenges and their carers.
We meet every Wednesday, 2.30pm-4.30pm for a friendly, creative workshop led by a professional artist. Participants can explore the museum collections and exhibitions and draw upon this inspiration to create their own artwork. The group works across different art forms including drawing, painting, print making, clay sculpture, paper art, jewellery making and more.
We focus on having fun, trying new things and exploring all forms of creativity.
All art materials are provided. We also have free tea, coffee and biscuits to help keep the creative juices flowing.
Places are limited, so if you are interested in joining the group, please contact Charlotte Spink at the Oriental Museum on 0191 334 5691 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
These sessions are suitable for people living with mild to moderate dementia or other long-term health challenges who are accompanied by a carer or family member.
The Oriental Museum is fully accessible and has free on-site parking.
