Art Workshop: Weaving Japanese Sanada-Himo bands

Come and enjoy a creative weaving workshop led by expert weaver Susan J Foulkes.

Sanada-Himo are traditional woven bands from Japan used to tie scrolls and boxes, and used in making samurai armour.

In this creative workshop, led by expert designer / weaver Susan J. Foulkes, you will learn about the origins and uses of sanada-himo and create your own woven band to take home.

In the workshop you will receive all the equipment required for the activity and to continue weaving at home, including a ready warped heddle, shuttle, backstrap, instruction and pattern booklet and a spare warp and weft.

No experience necessary. Suitable for aged 16 plus. There are limited places available at this workshop.

£25 per person. Advance payment will be taken on booking.

About the artist
Susan J. Foulkes is a north-east based designer weaver. Working with natural yarns such as linen, silk, alpaca and merino wool, she is fascinated by weaving’s long history.
Susan has undertaken commissions for ecclesiastical textiles based upon ancient Roman silk damask patterns.
