Searching Durham University Library Archives and Special Collections
Durham University Library Archives and Special Collections contains material in many different formats, including archives, manuscripts, printed books, photographs, maps and films. The format of a collection may affect how it is stored and catalogued. All our collections are described in individual brief collection descriptions which summarise their contents, availability and how to find out more information about them. These collection descriptions, along with those for Durham Cathedral Library and Ushaw College Library, can be searched across in Discover here
Most collections are also catalogued, describing their contents item by item. Broadly speaking, printed collections are catalogued on the Library catalogue, while manuscripts and photographs are catalogued in the archive catalogue. Nevertheless, many archives contain printed items, and most collections contain material in more than one format. The contents of both of these catalogues, along with the museum catalogue, have all been combined into our Discover service which offers a means of searching across the collections and electronic resources. You will also find our archives in Google as our archive catalogues are included in that search engine.
