Schools and colleges

“I'm massively encouraged to study history at university.

I have gained skills such as being able to present in front of large groups and creating presentations.

Wanting to study History myself, it was very useful to hear how people find the course.”

History undergraduates work in local schools and colleges

Each year, a number of Durham History undergraduates work with sixth formers in local schools and colleges on some of the areas they have studied as part of their degree programmes. The sessions are designed and run by the undergraduates themselves. The aims of the project are to introduce sixth formers to the type of work done by History undergraduates and to provide Durham students with an opportunity to teach the material on which they are working.

Durham University Sutton Trust Summer Schools

The History Department runs a summer school programme which is part of the Durham University Sutton Trust Summer Schools. The Year 12 students selected for the programme will have chance to experience the kind of research-led teaching which is the basis of our undergraduate programme. “I feel I am now more confident with my knowledge.

It has helped me to articulate often complex material in a way that can be understood by others.”
