Durham University

College of St Hild and St Bede

Tim Ferguson

Hild Bede has a fine chapel with Anglican worship throughout term time.

Our weekly pattern of worship is Wednesday evensong at 5:45pm and Sung Eucharist at 11am on Sunday mornings. Services of compline, Taize and meditation are arranged at various points in the term. The music is a big part of chapel life, providing some of the finest choral music in Durham, to bring beauty and life to the worship. The choir is mainly made up of Hild Bede students but we have singers from across the university. Our organ is a Harrison, and makes a beautiful sound. The highlight of the chapel calendar for many is the Christmas carol service. We are a friendly chapel community and we try and make everyone welcome whatever their background or religious perspective. The sermon themes are chosen to try and engage us in reflective, generous and compassionate living, and to help us live with faithfully in a world which is divided in many ways and full of inequality.
