Welcome 'Home' to Hild Bede

Hild Bede is offering self-catered accommodation at Rushford Court to students in 2024-25. All freshers are guaranteed accommodation and come to join a lively community where there is always something going on. Nurtured by our Student Welfare Support staff, be-friended by our mentors and looked after by our student colleagues and the SRC, we aim to make sure all new members to feel that they belong. This is regardless of background and how you choose to describe or identify yourself. With that feeling of confidence and security that you belong in Hild Bede, we encourage you to push yourself, try new things, explore new ideas, make new friends and connections and to ‘become’ as you develop and grow.

There is something happening every day from sports, to arts and theatre to action and activism. There are places in College to study to play and to relax. Our accommodation, located at our main Riverside site, Ernest Place and New Kepier Court all have great facilities which are free to residents.

Hild Bede is a rich, diverse and vibrant community that offers you the balance between academic endeavour, sporting and artistic achievement, and sociability via events and clubs and societies that enrich, entertain, stimulate and support you as you grow to be Hild Bede through and through.

Our People

At the heart of Hild Bede lie its people.

We have amazing, kind and brillant staff, working across College operations in portering and reception, in Student Support and supporting our Senior Common Room, Mentors, Alumni and Trusts and Funds. The team are led by our Principal and Vice-Principal. You will come to know many of these people well over the year with us.

The management of College is undertaken through our College Management Group and we are delighted here to have student representatives from the SRC and especially the President who provides that critical link between us and also into the wider University through the Presidents’ Forum. Your College is represented in the Division and at Senate by your Principal.

Our residences are managed by private sector providers but we support students living there with regular support drop-ins, other onsite activities as well as providing contact in our offices at the Riverside site.

Our History

Hild Bede is a College with a long history and full of tradition. The present College, which was itself the result of a merger of St Hild’s College and the College of St Bede in 1975, joined the University in 1979. Ever since we have accepted students in all subjects, disciplines and professions.
