College of St Hild and St Bede

Undergraduate Life

Every Durham University student belongs to a college - a vibrant, supportive community that provides opportunities for you to gain new experiences and develop skills to achieve more in your future life.

We welcome students to Hild-Bede who have an eagerness to become involved in the College community as a whole, in addition to having the potential and desire to learn.

All teaching is undertaken by your department and the College does not have a direct input. However, many academic-related processes are undertaken in College by the Senior Tutor and Principal; attendance monitoring, Academic Concessions, Academic Appeals, etc. Unofficial academic support is provided by Personal Mentors who may also be members of the academic staff.

Meet Michael...

"Hild Bede seemed to have everything on offer; traditional beautiful buildings, sports facilities, its own cinema and endless possibilities for getting involved and meeting a large number of new people from a variety of different backgrounds. I absolutely love the college experience. The mentor system is highly useful and the welfare links make the college a close-knit community. The collegiate system has helped me become involved in things I never would have before."
