About Hild and Bede
The College has some of the best sporting, non-sporting and academic facilities of all the Durham Colleges, with its own tennis courts, squash courts, netball courts, a gymnasium, a chapel and a theatre/cinema, plus a large computer room of all the colleges.
The college has some of the most attractive buildings in Durham, with views across the city towards the historic Cathedral and Castle.

College provides much more than accommodation through being an environment in which students have opportunities to achieve their potential. Its long-standing tradition of being a caring and supportive community, for all of our members, contributes significantly to the 'Student Experience' for undergraduates and postgraduates alike during their time in Durham.
With a total student population of over 1200, over half of whom live out of College, we are the largest of the Colleges that admit undergraduates. However, this does not mean that we are impersonal. The housing of residents in discrete areas aids integration into the community as a whole, enhanced by the tradition of dining in common. Non-residents enjoy equal support and inclusion within College events as do residents.
The ethos of "working hard and playing hard" is evidenced by over 80% of our graduates obtaining Firsts and Upper Second Class Honours Degrees, and by the amount of 'silverware' in display cabinets and adorning my office!
The loyalty felt by former members is measured by the large numbers of them who maintain contact both informally and through Alumni events, from many parts of the world.
I believe firmly that Hild-Bede students are not just for 3 or 4 years but for life!Professor Jan Clarke, Principal St Hild & St Bede
