Core modules:

Strategy seeks to explain the success of a business or the lack of it by studying its corporate plan of action in relation to both the external commercial environment and also the balance internally between the plan and its resources and capabilities.

Organisational Behaviour covers key issues relating to the behaviour of individuals in an organisation and examines topics such as personal and mental ability, the management of attitudes and work motivation, decision-making, corporate and social responsibility, and addressing justice and equality within organisations.

Entrepreneurship and the Entrepreneurial Process introduces entrepreneurship, the role it plays in modern economies and the different activities it involves in businesses, from family firms to social enterprises and in larger corporations.

Thinking Entrepreneurially will cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset adaptable to both startups and established organisations. This module enhances your ability to confidently navigate the ever-changing business landscape, with entrepreneurship as the foundation. Throughout the course, a strong emphasis is placed on adapting, persisting, and learning from entrepreneurial challenges.

New Venture Creation provides you with an overall understanding of the process of creating a new business venture as well as giving you an insight into what is required to make it happen and how to meet the challenges of such ventures. You will also learn how best to manage customer and supplier relationships, finances, and operational issues in an ethical and responsible manner.

Research Methods and Dissertation (International study route available) offers you the necessary training to undertake advanced-level research and conduct an in-depth investigation into an issue which is applicable and relevant to your degree subject. Crucially, the module gives you a thorough understanding of key principles of research design and methodology in business and management and develops your skills in conducting and communicating research. You will have the opportunity to undertake research abroad at a partner university. Alternatively, you can choose to complete a business project.

The course is delivered through a combination of lectures and seminars. Lectures provide the key contents of a topic and are occasionally delivered by expert guest speakers who share their experiences in the world of business.

Seminars offer the opportunity for smaller group discussions based on the lecture topics and provide space for you to engage in debate and questioning around the subject.

Outside of timetabled contact hours, you will also be expected to carry out independent study both as a follow-up to lectures and in preparation for contributing in seminars.

The dissertation allows you to carry out independent research and, using theoretical frameworks, develop your skills in formulating and expressing long-form analysis and research. Alternatively, the business project usually involves an external organisation and gives you the opportunity to apply knowledge gained on the course to solve a real-life problem.

You will have the support of an academic adviser as well as one-to-one support from teaching staff.

Assessment is thorough and is carried out through the production of written assignments, case studies, group presentations, a series of group projects, examinations and your dissertation.
