Accessible path through garden

The Visitor Centre, Prince Bishops Garden and Glasshouses are easily accessible by wheel chairs. The paths to the rest of the garden are generally good, but due to the nature of the garden are quite steep in parts and some are not suitable for wheelchairs or motorised scooters. Benches and tables are available all around the garden for visitors to rest. The greenhouse and most of the garden is accessible, slopes and steps are clearly marked on our map.

Our full Access Statement, in the style recommended by Visit England can be found by clicking here.

Please note that the road that leads from town to the Botanic Garden is uphill all the way through, and therefore pedestrian access might be unsuitable for visitors with mobility issues or respiratory medical conditions.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Garden if you have any access requirements, and staff will be happy to advise or assist. Email if you have any special requests. Durham University is constantly seeking to improve the quality and accessibility of our Visitor Attractions and we welcome feedback from our visitors.
