Botanic Garden Summer Fun Day - Sunday 18 June
Join us in the Botanic Garden on Sunday 18 June, to celebrate Summer with a full day of fun and a host of activities for all the family! There will be loads going on all around the Garden from 10am - 4pm, so explore and see what you find.
Don't forget to check out all the amazing arts and crafts activities taking place in the Greenhouse - and look out for photo opportunities with our giant deck chair and fabulous Flower wall!
All activities are included in the usual admission charge and are suitable for all ages.
Face painting
Be inspired by the colours and creatures in the Garden and have your face painted as a flower or an animal. Our face painters will be on the Monkey Puzzle Tree lawn.
Enjoy a story from Tillytoo Tales
Join Storyteller Elizabeth Baker, for a host of stories and legends from some of the different countries where the wonderful plants in our garden grow. You can hear stories at sessions throughout the day on the Monkey Puzzle Tree lawn. Suitable for all ages.
Japanese Tea Ceremonies
Staff and students from Teikyo University of Japan will be conducting traditional Tea Ceremonies in the Cherry Circle, Japanese Garden at 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm.
Pop along to learn about the art of making a cuppa.
Try your hand at Japanese crafts, Origami...
Try the ancient art of origami and to create your own animal by folding coloured paper.
In the Cherry Circle from 10am - 3pm.

Ask for your name to be written in Japanese to see how it looks in this beautiful decorative style.

Music in the Garden
You will be able to enjoy music from Pittington Brass Band who will be playing at the Lawn by the Visitor Centre of the Garden on the afternoon.
You can also enjoy performances from the Mandolin Orchestra as they perform at the Lawn by the Visitor Centre on the morning.
Food and Drink
Our Cafe will be open all day, serving fresh food and refreshments.
You're welcome to bring a picnic, or enjoy tasty treats from our street food vendors who will be in the Visitor Car Park.
Phi Phi is a family-run business, serving Greek food. All food is fresh, handmade and free from preservatives. Phi Phi sources all of their ingredients from trusted farmers in the area.
Fat Hippo will also have a street food van, serving their delicious burgers and dirty fries.
Friends of the Garden Plant Sale
Our fabulous 'Friends' will be offering a wide selection of plants and seeds available to buy on the Greenhouse Lawn.
There will also be cacti and succulents on offer from the Teesside branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society.

Our 10 hectare Botanic Garden is set amongst beautiful mature woodlands on the southern outskirts of Durham City. Open to the public, the Botanic Garden offers a wide variety of landscapes to explore and discover, with guests of all ages visiting throughout the year.
