Student Art Prize 2020/21

Although Durham does not formally teach fine art, almost every university college has its own active art society or art group, where students take part in workshops, meet artists and develop their artistic skills through collaborative creativity.

The first Student Art Prize was launched in October 2019 in order to expand opportunities around creativity and to develop a new permanent student art collection, housed within the university’s wider art collection, but available as a resource for the whole community.

The Student Art Prize 2020/21 was announced on November 9th 2020. The theme for 2021 is HEROISM. All shortlisted artwork will be displayed in the Art Prize exhibition, part of SITC arts festival,

The prize fund this year was generously supported by alumni Richard Roberts, and offers £1500 for first place, £1000 for second and £500 for third, he hoped, providing a huge incentive to apply.
