In every college you can take advantage of a whole range of extra-curricular opportunities to help you excel outside your academic studies, realise your potential and develop skills to achieve more in your future life and career.
Try something entirely new or take part in whatever you already feel passionate about - sports, music, theatre, charity work, community outreach, dance, journalism or perhaps even a leadership position.
You can participate in as much or as little as you want, there's no pressure. In the smaller setting of college, it's really easy to just give things a try and see if you like them. That’s why over 90% of our students participate at some level in extracurricular University activities.
You can still enjoy all these activities on a University-level but the smaller college setting gives you a chance to grow in confidence and gain experiences that help prepare you for whatever sphere of life you choose in the future.
My three years at Durham have been the best possible preparation I could have had before heading out into the real world. The time I’ve spent doing extra-curricular activities have proved invaluable material for discussion in job interviews and after receiving three graduate job offers I am grateful for all the opportunities Durham has provided me with.Niamh Murphy, University College
The collegiate system has greatly increased my confidence. It has encouraged me to get involved in student life in many different ways: societies, working in the bar, sports events between colleges, and much more!
