Vaccinations

Before coming to university please ensure that your vaccinations are up to date. We recommend that you consult your current doctor to check if you have had the vaccines below and, if you have not, arrange to receive them before you arrive in Durham.

If you are unable to receive any of these vaccinations before travelling to university, seek advice about accessing vaccinations from your chosen medical practice in Durham as soon as possible after arrival. For information on registering with a medical practice in Durham see Medical Registration and Advice click here.

Meningitis (MenACWY)

It is extremely important that all students have had a vaccination to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be deadly. Please ensure you have received the MenACWY vaccine which is highly effective in preventing illness caused by the four meningococcal strains, including the Men W strain.

Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)

In recent years there has been an increase in cases of measles and mumps in students at universities. Please check that you have had the necessary two doses of the combined MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccination.
