Visit Cosin’s Library

Hidden in the heart of Durham, Cosin’s Library was founded in 1669 by Bishop John Cosin to give local people access to ‘good books’.

Enjoy the splendour of this 17th century library, in the heart of Durham's World Heritage Site.

The Library is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am – 3pm, and Bank Holiday Mondays.

Bookings are for a 30-minute duration, so please choose the time you wish to visit from the ticket options available on our booking website.

Due to the historic nature of the building, access is only possible via steps. We offer alternative access with a virtual tour of the library.

Further reading regarding Cosin's Library and the restoration project can be found on the dedicated Cosin's Library website
