"Welcome to the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences! You are joining us at a very exciting time in the development of sport and exercise science provision at Durham University. As well as receiving a world class education, I hope you will have a great experience here, and engage in all aspects of the wider student life."

Year 1

In your first year with us, we will help you to gain a fundamental knowledge and understanding of key concepts and issues relating to various selected disciplines within the academic study of either the BA Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity (C603) or BSc Sport and Exercise Sciences (C606) through the combination of five compulsory modules and the choice of an 'open' module:

*As part of our flexible teaching programme, you have the exciting opportunity to expand on your own academic interests through studying an ‘open’ module in other subjects from a different Department, if you would like to, such as Business, Education, Languages, Sociology, Government and International Affairs, Psychology, and Biosciences.

you can opt to stay in the Department of Sport and Exercise Sciences and take our optional module 'Introduction to Sport and Exercise Industries'.

The choice of open module is entirely up to you, as long as it fits with your programmes timetable. Further guidance on this can be found here and under 'Step 2 - Module Registration' (below).

Prior to the commencement of your studies it is important that you complete steps 1 and 2 below:

Please note that the Online Enrolment System opens eight weeks before the start of your Programme.
