Welcome to New Students
'Congratulations on securing a place to read History at Durham, and we very much hope that you will enjoy the three years that you spend here with us.'
Enclosed in the welcome pack is a letter from our Head of Department, Professor Sarah Davies, formally welcoming you to the department, a Preliminary Honours handbook outlining level 1 modules available to you, and instructions on how to complete registration for history modules. The History Society membership handbook will follow in due course.
Congratulations again and welcome to the Department!
Students must enrol and register for their modules. Detailed information and guidance can be found in the Student Registry pages to guide you through this process.
Please read this information carefully.
The module descriptions in the Preliminary Honours Handbook contain recommendations for preliminary reading.
These are intended to help you tackle unfamiliar subjects and approaches once you have learned your module allocations and during the busy first weeks of term.
Supplementary information dedicated to History Freshers, including a current timetable, is available on Durham University Online (DUO).
Module registration is a three stage process which includes the selection of module(s) and approval of module(s).
- The first stage is to read the module descriptions in the Pre-liminary Honours Handbook.
- The second stage is where you confirm your programme of study and choose your optional modules.
- The third and final stage of the process is where department(s) approve your choice of modules.
More information on module registration can be found in the Student Registry Modules section.
