Scenes With Girls

17th June 2021, 19:30 to 19th June 2021, 19:30, Mark Hillary Arts Centre - Collingwood

A play by Miriam Battye

"I've had the middle and index finger of a boy up me. I am NOT a fridge. I am NOT a fridge. I am TERRIBLY DESIRABLE"

Lou, Tosh and Fran struggle with the world young women live in: they are told their purpose is to find someone to love them and then are made to feel pathetic for wanting to be loved. Throughout 22 scenes we witness women’s platonic devotion to each other, and power over each other. Women can make each other feel valued, powerful, seen and heard. Women can also make each other feel unbeautiful, stupid, whorish, and frigid. It is part of the fabric of girlhood that you will have several friends who you can laugh and bitch with, who will then cease to exist when you find a Boyfriend.
