Tent Events

From Saturday 5 - Friday 25 June 'The Tent on the Racecourse' will be the venue for an exciting programme of entertainment.

You can enjoy events run by student groups from across the University including the Durham University Charity Fashion Show, Opera, Gospel and A Cappella performances. Although a few of the events are just for our students, the majority of events are open to all of the Durham community, with theatrical performances and music concerts to enjoy. Durham University Labour Club presents - Durham Transformed

Date Saturday 5th June
Time: 4.30pm - 8pm

Durham Transformed aims to be an eclectic coming together of music and politics with the aim of raising awareness of issues both local and global. Enjoy performances from bands such as First Blush, Theaker folk, and Witless, along with a wide variety of speakers from the student and local community. Bring Back the Bands with Brass and Concert Band

Our very own Brass Band and Concert Band are teaming up for an afternoon of mini concerts, with classic 'Big Band' tunes. Come along, soak up the atmospher and get 'The Tent' off to a swinging start!

The Jam on the Racecourse

Date: Sunday 6 June
Time: 6pm (Doors open 5.30pm)

Join DOMAN, Music Durham and (potentially) many other music societies around the university for a relaxing open mic night celebrating original music, with some of the music having been composed and refined on the day!

Durham University English Litereature Society (DUELS) Poetry Reading (University only event)

DUELS and ‘From The Lighthouse’ are combining to create the ultimate literary event, filled with literary performances, drinks and good vibes in general. Come along if you like poetry, prose, drama, or just want to sit around and watch our talented contributors!

Queer the Wear

Date: Tuesday 8 June

Come down to the Racecourse Marquee for drinks, performances from LGBT+ student artists, karaoke, and a celebration of LGBT+ culture and history! Any profit from this event will go to Mermaids, a charity that has been supporting transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse children, young people, and their families since 1995. TEDxDU

TEDx Durham University returns with its annual conference this year entitled 'The Hill We Climb'. Covering themes of personal journeys, battles overcome and ensuring your voice is heard, this promises to be an event not to miss with an impressive lineup of speakers. DU Ballet Company ‘The Four Seasons’

About: Durham University Ballet Company will be performing their brand-new production of 'The Four Seasons' in 'The Tent'. The original narrative and choreography will be performed by a talented cast of dancers, alongside a live orchestra, to Vivaldi’s famous score with additional recomposed pieces from Tchaikovsky’s ’Seasons’.

DICCU: KNOWN. How can I know God?

KNOWN is a series of events run by the Durham Christian Union (DICCU), giving the people of Durham an opportunity to explore what it means to know and be known by God. Community Picnic in the Park

Come and join in the fun for the launch of Durham Student Volunteering's new initiative, teaming up with members of local Parkinsons' grups to hold a 'Picnic in the Park'. The aim of the day is for members to be introduced to the students and promote the launch of the befriending/buddying scheme ‘Parkinson’s Pals’. Entertainment includes music form Durham's own 'Kinky Jeff and the Swingers', as well as a specialist Parkinson’s dance instructor.

Greenspace Festival

Greenspace will be taking over the 'Tent' as part of the University's Community Day. Durham Opera Ensemble present - ‘Pirates of Penzance’

Enjoy a lively performance of this Gilbert and Sullivan classic! Frederic, a young pirate apprentice, is coming to the end of his indentured time and falls in love. But is he really as free as he thinks? Will the plots of the evil Pirate King steal Frederic of both his new love and his future, or will the Major-General and the policemen save him from his fate?
