The Lemonade Principle returns

(8 February 2021)

We’re pleased to say that series two of career insights podcast The Lemonade Principle has launched this week.

Originally created to provide on-the-go additional industry/alumni insights to our Durham MBA students, the podcast now has listeners tuning in from across the world.

An MBA life is usually quite a busy one, but students are always keen to learn more. It was for that reason Chris Roberts, Engagement Manager at the School, created The Lemonade Principle to enable students to gain insights from previous students in spare pockets of time, e.g. when cooking, cleaning or walking to class.

Going global

A few weeks after the podcast launched, much of the world went into lockdown. The podcast continued, providing students with an extra way to feel connected and engaged with the MBA community. Over the last year, more and more people have tuned in, and The Lemonade Principle has now gained over 1,600 listens in 42 countries.

How to adapt and thrive

The first episode of series two features Dr Carl Stephen Patrick Hunter OBE, CEO of Coltraco Ultrasonics, who is also a Professor in Practice here at the School. Carl is a history and politics graduate of Durham and was also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science from the University.

Chris, and new co-host Katherine Kirby, Engagement Manager, discuss Coltraco Ultrasonic’s response to the pandemic and how Carl adapted his business to not only survive, but play a role in the UK’s response.

Learning from inspirational alumni

Current student, Apoorv Shrivastava, said: “The Lemonade Principle is helping me to figure out what I will gain from my MBA journey. The insights of former MBA students, and those from other programmes, can really help both current and prospective students alike to shape our own paths.

It’s also beneficial to anyone seeking advice, such as exploring how to launch a new business or stand out in job applications or even the options a degree gives us.

Most importantly, through these inspirational stories of successful alumni, it provides motivation and helps broaden the business interests of listeners.”

Weekly episodes

New episodes of the podcast will be released every Monday.

The first series of The Lemonade Principle has 11 episodes and features alumni including Durham MBA and Durham DBA alumnus and entrepreneur Dr Larry Lee and international athlete and undergraduate alumna Shirin Gerami.
