Fitness Centre reopens to students

(14 August 2020)

Our Fitness Centre has reopened, having been closed during lockdown.

State-of-the-art facilities

The Fitness Centre was part of our £32 million investment to create a Sports and Wellbeing Park and opened in July 2019.

It includes state-of-the-art fitness equipment, including cardiovascular and resistance machines, and fitness trackers.

Reopening safely

On Monday 10 August, the Fitness Centre reopened – with procedures in place to comply with government guidelines.

We have reduced how many people can use the Centre at the same time, introduced a one-way system and stepped up our cleaning regime.

Also, all sessions must be pre-booked.

How did it go?

Visitors in our first week have been impressed by our safety procedures.

One user, Trevor, told us: “I was in at 8am and you’ve done an excellent job – minimum disruption to gym users and you haven’t stripped out kit so you only have the bare minimum to clean. One-way entry and exit system works well too.”

Another, Kylie Kendrick, said: “I feel perfectly safe in the new arrangement and am more than happy with the amount of equipment available and members allowed in the gym at one time.

“Being allowed back to train has helped my sanity no end. Thanks to all involved for their vigilance and efforts in allowing this to happen.”

Get involved

The Fitness Centre is open to students, staff and members of the local community. For more information, visit the web page. Or email:
