Theatre, music and art online this summer

(15 June 2020)

We may not be able to do theatre, music and art together in person right now, but we’re excited to announce a month-long online festival to allow you to enjoy what Durham has to offer from home. Introducing: Summer in the City ONLINE!

What is Summer in the City?

A Festival that showcases Durham’s theatre, music and art.

Last year’s Festival, held throughout June, attracted around 19,000 visitors.

What’s planned for 2020?

Although Covid-19 means we can’t get together for performances, we’re moving Summer in the City online!

Throughout June, there will be exhibitions and performances to enjoy digitally and do-it-yourself activities to help you get creative from home.

Highlights include ‘Lighting Up the Home’, a competition inspired by Lumiere – the UK’s leading light festival which takes place in Durham every two years. Could you create a light installation at home?

There will also be an online short film festival, micro music festival and much more.

Student theatre, music and art in Durham

Durham has one of the most vibrant and exciting arts scenes of any university in the country.

Durham Student Theatre includes 27 companies, presenting over 100 shows every year.

Every year, over 1,200 of our students perform over 80 music concerts.

And we have a growing student art community, with students benefitting from our extensive collections and initiatives such as our Student Art Prize.
