Celebrating diversity of faiths

(5 November 2020)

From previous Diwali celebrations

We’re proud to be a multicultural, diverse community – with students and staff from over 130 countries. So we’re excited to tell you about two faith events coming up soon.

Interfaith Experiences

Our students have access to many cultural and faith activities, including faith societies.

On Thursday 12 November, the Durham Interfaith Student Network, which includes five faith societies, will host an online event titled ‘Interfaith Experiences’.

Speakers will discuss the impact of interfaith dialogue on their own faith, their faith communities and the wider world. This is part of National Interfaith Week 2020. For more information, please visit the Facebook page.

‘Digital Diwali’

We’re also looking forward to hosting an online celebration of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights.

There will be craft activities, storytelling, recipes and, on Saturday 14 November, a Lakshmi Puja ceremony, traditional prayers to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, will be streamed live.

This will take place on our Oriental Museum’s Facebook page from 7pm and also be available on the University website from Monday 16 November.

Post your Diwali creations online using #diwali2020 on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
