Star authors at Durham Book Festival
(11 September 2020)
Durham has a thriving cultural scene and, as part of this, we’re excited to announce the line-up for this year’s Durham Book Festival.
About Durham Book Festival…
It’s North East England’s largest literary festival.
This year’s event will take place online, with writers, artists and thinkers from across the world taking part in more than 50 events and activities.
Star names appearing include novelist Alex Wheatle, Tony Blair’s former spokesman Alistair Campbell, Pointless presenter Richard Osman, Rebus writer Ian Rankin and North East-born crime author Ann Cleeves.
Making sense of the world with our experts
With changes to this year’s festival made in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, some of our in-house experts will be taking part in an exclusive series on ‘the new normal’.
Each academic will have ten minutes to propose their thought-provoking ideas on the theme, with proposals ranging from how heavy metal music provides us with a roadmap for navigating life in a pandemic to the philosophy of travel.
We’ll also be presenting two digital events ‘Inside the Archives’ at our Palace Green Library, where you can find out more about women’s lives in early modern Britain, and the undiscovered literary history of Durham.
The Festival will take place from October 9 to 18.
Tickets are available now, via the Festival website.
