South College to recruit Pioneering students

(1 November 2019)

Durham’s newest college, South College will open to its first cohort of students in 2020. As well as recruiting Freshers’, the college is keen to welcome 120 current students who are willing to transfer and help to build a brand new student community.

To raise awareness of the opportunity to transfer, South College Principal, Professor Tim Luckhurst is hosting a series of lunchtime drop-in sessions where students can find out more about the college.

Pioneer Scholarship

Students are also being invited to apply for the South College Pioneer Scholarship, which would award them £500 towards their rent, as they will live in South’s great new accommodation and give time to welcome Freshers, and create college clubs and societies.

Exciting opportunies

Professor Luckhurst explained; “I am looking for enthusiastic and dedicated students who would like to transfer to South College and work with me to create an ambitious and inspiring environment. All students are welcome to apply and bring their particular skills or experience to South.

“This is a great opportunity for students to start something completely new, whether in music, drama or sport; if they care passionately about engagement or love organising balls; speaking in debates or booking inspiring speakers, I am hoping they will apply. Similarly, students with a passion for formal dinners or a new idea for student journalism, as well as those who might prefer quietly to work with our new students in supportive role.

Kickstart Lunches

The informal sessions are being held across the university during November and December starting this Friday 8 November. Interested students can join Professor Luckhurst to chat over lunch in the Bishop’s Dining Room, University College between 12.30pm and 2pm.
