Undergraduate college preference
We encourage every applicant to express a college preference, should you have one, using the college codes in your UCAS application.
Applicants then have the opportunity to rank all 16 colleges in order of preference for consideration.
Your college preferences and college allocation has no reflection on your application to Durham and getting an offer; that decision is made by your academic department.
Your college preferences are considered as part of the allocation process. We do our best to try and allocate you a place in your preferred college, although this cannot be guaranteed. Please note that we view college preferences for the college as a whole, and not for specific reasons such as facilities they offer or their location. For details on how we allocate students to colleges refer to our undergraduate allocation process.
To help you to make a decision of which college you may wish to rank first as your preferences you can use information on college webpages, attend a Pre-Application Open Day and we encourage you to visit Durham City to look around if you have the opportunity. You can also talk to current or past students of the University but be warned, you will probably find they love their college and may try to get you to like the college they went to!
