Non-University accommodation

Around two-thirds of postgraduate students live in private accommodation in and around Durham City. A vast range of private accommodation is available in Durham City and its neighbouring areas.

Househunting tips and advice in looking for private accommodation is provided by the Accommodation and Allocations Office

Durham is a small city, and there are a variety of accommodation types, locations, and costs in the area. Rental charges do vary depending upon these factors.

Some students live in the surrounding areas that are around 2-4 miles away from the city centre. These areas have a good supply of housing options and are usually cheaper than rents in the city centre. These areas also have good public transport links where public transport services can be accessed at a discount.

Durham County Council - Durham Student Life app

Durham County Council has developed the Durham Student Life app to welcome students to the city, by giving access to a range of information about living in Durham at your fingertips.

The app gives you help and advice on a wide range of issues from events and housing to handy guides on recycling and rubbish collection. Students can access this information anywhere 24 hours a day.
