The following information applies to full time postgraduate students only, who will begin their studies in September/October 2019 and wish to be considered for college accommodation.
Durham University has a number of rooms available to postgraduate students. Subject to room availability, Durham offers a guaranteed offer of single study bedroom as part of our Accommodation Guarantee scheme.
To qualify for the Accommodation Guarantee you must meet the following criteria:
- accept your official postgraduate offer to study at Durham University
- submit college preference via the Online Applicant Portal, applying for college membership with accommodation by 01 June 2019
- make a £250 accommodation booking fee payment by 01 June 2019
Applicants who have formally accepted a postgraduate offer at Durham for September/October entry will be contacted to confirm when you are eligible to express college preferences for membership, with a consideration for accommodation should they wish, via the Online Applicant Portal.
You do not need to hold an unconditional offer to be eligible for the Accommodation Guarantee. Once you have formally accepted your postgraduate offer, you are eligible for college allocation.
Please note the Accommodation Guarantee scheme applies to accommodation as a whole. We therefore cannot guarantee you an accommodation offer within a specific college, of a specific catering type, or room type.
Applicants who meet the Accommodation Guarantee scheme will be contacted from late July time, and throughout the summer, with an accommodation offer. In the first instance we make every attempt to provide accommodation within the allocated college where possible, however this is not guaranteed.
If the college that you are allocated to reaches capacity for accommodation, you will then be offered accommodation in another college with availability. In this instance we make every attempt to provide accommodation that will meet your facilities preferences where possible, however this is not guaranteed.
If you are offered accommodation in another college and choose to accept it, then your college membership will be transferred. This is because you must have membership within the college that you will reside.
It is not compuslory for aplicants to accept a college accommodation offer provided to you. If you choose not to accept an accommodation offer, you will still remain a member of a college.
Non-Guarantee Waiting List
Applicants who apply for college membership and accommodation after 01 June deadline date can still make the booking fee payment. You will however be placed onto a non-guarantee waiting list.
College membership will still be allocated to all applicants.
Please note there is no guarantee that accommodation will be available to anyone who applied after the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date, and you should therefore look into your options private rented accommodation. Further information about the non-guaranteed waiting list will be provided to specific applicants throughout the summer.
There is limited university accommodation available for students bringing their partners or families to Durham. Keenan House at Dryburn Court, about 1 mile north-east of the city centre, contains 70 one, two and three bedroom flats.
We regret that we are unable to offer a guarantee of accommodation to family applicants as demand always exceeds availability. Early applications are strongly advised.
