Accommodation and facilities
Our colleges share many characteristics but each college has its own distinctive character that stems from its architecture, history, location and spirit. Yet we find that students quickly settle in every college and from their new home they enjoy exploring the other colleges too.
To help you express a college preference, you can use information on college websites for undergraduates and postgraduates. Prospective students can also attend an undergraduate Pre-application Open Day or a Postgraduate Open Day and visit Durham City to look around.
You can also talk to current or past students of the University and find out about their experiences of college life and the community!
Most undergraduate students live in college accommodation during their first year, with many choosing to return in subsequent years. Around one third of postgraduate students live in college accommodation.
Every college offers a variety of study bedrooms, some with en-suite facilities. Many rooms are single, others are shared, twin rooms. Each college has different types of rooms on offer, so for more information view our college summary table for undergraduates and postgraduates.
Colleges provide or have close access to a range of facilities for studying, relaxing and socialising, sports and fitness, music, events and day-to-day living. The information below is not intended to be an exhaustive list nor is it a guarantee that all facilities will be available at all times in all colleges. For further information on the facilities of each college please see individual college web pages.
