College Residence Charges
We know that starting university is an exciting time and choosing where you want to live is part of that experience. Durham has a wide variety of rooms and buildings that are both characterful and well equipped. We want you to feel safe and secure in our accommodation and part of a community where you will meet other students from a huge range of backgrounds and nationalities, build lifelong friendships and experience the best of what Durham can offer.
Durham is a collegiate university which means that all new students will firstly be allocated membership of one of our seventeen colleges. Whilst distinctive, our colleges have much that is similar in terms of staffing, welfare and support, social, cultural, sporting and community activities.
As a new student, you will be offered the chance to live in accommodation managed by your allocated college. It is important to recognise that accommodation facilities is one of the factors that make our colleges different from each other. Different colleges will have different types of catered , self catered, en-suite and standard rooms. Some will have studio flats available and others have shared rooms at a reduced charge. Not all room types are available in all colleges and your college allocation will determine the room types that are available to you.
When you apply to Durham for undergraduate study, you will be given the chance to rank each college (except for Ustinov which is postgraduate only) in order of preference. When you apply for postgraduate study, you will be able to rank up to three colleges.
