Course details

Supply Chain Management is a crucial area of business operation and can cover many roles such as buyer, procurement manager, logistics manager, inventory manager, fulfilment manager and supply chain manager. Studying this programme you will benefit from specialised modules and a business project based on practical problems with real companies. The modules have been developed considering the needs of today’s supply chain professionals, taking into account key supply chain operational areas and the skills needed to succeed in this important role.

If you are working or aim to be working in supply chain functions you will be facing unprecedented challenges due to increased disruptions, greater expectations of customers and the need to ensure your organisations supply chains remain resilient and economically, environmentally and socially sustainable. This programme is designed to address these issues through key concepts and the latest developments that will define supply chain excellence.

The programmes blended delivery means that you can benefit from Durham's expertise in supply chain management with limited study time in Durham, making this programme a possibility for international students. The programmes delivery mode acknowledges the global nature of the sector, international demand and Durham's own commitment to sustainability. You can benefit from our expertise without the need to frequently attend sessions in Durham with the associated travel and accommodation costs. You are required to attend a maximum of five week-long on-campus study sessions over the 2-years (see below for details).

There is a strong demand across industries for supply chain professionals who possess functional supply chain skills along with high levels of communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills combined with analytics and data science as well as an overall strategic understanding of business. The programmes modules have been designed enable you to develop these skills.

This programme will make you well-equipped to advance your career across supply chain functions or take up operations, supply chain and digital transformation consultancy roles. The programme aims to meet specific functional and generic skills required for the accreditations of CILT and CIPS (to be sought). Accreditation by CILT and CIPS will recognise your professional knowledge and make you valued and attractive to employers upon your successful graduation. Accreditatation is currently being sought for the programme. The strategic supply chain project will provide an opportunity for you to work on a real supply chain problem and a high-quality project is expected to enhance your standing with current or prospective employers.

By choosing this programme you will also benefit from our partnership with the University of Mannheim, one of Germany's top universities. They will deliver 3 of your modules (1 core and 2 elective modules) along with assessment and support for the duration of the module. This adds an international dimension to your studies.
