Professor Roger Gill

Biography

Professor Roger Gill is Visiting Professor of Leadership Studies and an independent scholar, researcher and writer in the field of leadership and workplace spirituality. He has led MBA classes at Durham in management consulting and leadership, supervised PhD students and contributed to executive development programmes. Roger is a Chartered Psychologist and a graduate of the universities of Oxford (BA, MA, psychology and philosophy), Liverpool (BPhil, occupational psychology) and Bradford (PhD, occupational psychology research). He was formerly Director of the Research Centre for Leadership Studies at the Leadership Trust in the UK and Professor of Business Administration (Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management) at the University of Strathclyde Graduate Business School in the UK., where he later also served as Visiting Professor of Leadership Studies. His career has encompassed HRM in industry in the UK, management consultancy, and leadership development across the world, and establishing and running his own company devoted to HRM consultancy and management training and development in East and Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. He has held a range of both permanent and visiting academic appointments in the UK, USA, France and the UAE. His publications include Theory and Practice of Leadership, 2nd edition, which was shortlisted for the UK’s Chartered Institute of Management “Management Book of the Year” and “Management Textbook of the Year” awards in 2013. He has published widely on management, leadership, and religious and secular humanist spirituality in scholarly and practitioner journals and the media.
