Open Days and Visits

The best way to find out more about living and studying at Durham University is to come and visit the Department .

Open days

University wide open days are an excellent opportunity to visit and develop a picture of life at our University. University open days are currently scheduled for Monday June 25th, Saturday June 30th and Saturday 22nd September. Information and booking for these open days is available here.

If you cannot attend any of the Unversity-wide or Departmental open days, then we can arrange an individual visit. We will be pleased to see you if you would like to visit outside scheduled open days and tours, but in order to make the most of your visit, you must contact us to arrange a suitable time before you come. Visits are normally held on Wednesdays to co-ordinate with the University campus tours. Contact us at

There are campus tours of the University Wednesday afternoons. You will need to book online  to guarantee a place.

If you would like to visit colleges during your visit you will need to contact them directly. Details of colleges can be found at

You can find a map of Durham showing the School of Biological and Biomedical Sciences by clicking on our web site home page at

You might also find it helpful to go to Google maps at to view a map and a high resolution aerial photograph of Durham showing our location. This, used in conjunction with the map on our web site or in our prospectus, will give you a feeling for the location of the School in relation to the colleges, other departments and the city itself, which are all in close proximity.

Parking can be difficult in the centre of the city but the Howlands Park-and-Ride is only a short walk away from the science site.

We look forward to seeing you. If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us at
